A few years ago I was spending a lot of time with the Hispanic community in the town I live in. Most of them did not speak much English so I got to practice spanish with multiple people. It didn’t take long before I would catch myself thinking and even dreaming in Spanish. I didn’t use Spanish for a few years and then I went to Central America for 3 months and I found my self thinking in Spanish once Again. This happened so much that when I would reflect on my week, I couldn’t even remember if a conversation I had with someone was in English or Spanish.
I might not have a nice Rico Suave accent but I’d say that’s pretty fluent if you ask me. The language of Spanish had become natural to me again.
Love works the same way.
One of my favorite passages is Mathew 25: 31-45 where Jesus talks about splitting the people up into a group on his left and on his right. He welcomes the ones on his right into the kingdom because of what they had done for the least of these. He does not welcome the the ones on the left because of what they did not do for the least do these.
The ones on the left tried to impress God by keeping track of all they had done for Him. They were full of pride. They tried to look better than everyone else on the outside but God saw their hearts and how far they were from Him.
Then there were the ones he had on the right. They were humble. They served out of the love they had for the Lord not so that they would be served from the Lord. My FAVORITE part of this passage is when they respond to Jesus and say, “WHEN did we see you?”
You see…loving people had become so much apart of their life style that they were not even realizing they were doing it anymore.
Love is a language. It is the most powerful language and it is the only language that can be understand in every city and village throughout this whole world.
Just like any language, love takes practice and the more you practice the more you will speak love fluently. you will reflect on your week and not even remember remember using it. Love can become your natural response to the man who just shattered your heart, the person who makes fun of you and hates you because THAT is what love does and the more you practice letting God love you and loving others through his love, the more you will be able to LOVE FLUENTLY.
