My 82 year old grandma got married?
When I was in high school, my grandma (“Gran”) told my family that she was getting married to a guy named Vic. She was 82, and he was the ripe young age of 83 (and yes, we all thought the same thing you’re thinking). Anyways, the man she ended up marrying actually ended up being a pretty nice guy. I only met him a few times because we lived in different places, but he seemed alright to me. Fast forward a few years, and we got a call that he was really sick. A few weeks later, we get another call that he had passed away. To be honest, it didn’t really affect me that much (or so I thought). I had only met him a few times the whole time my grandma was married to him, so I didn’t really know him super well.
Processing (something I do a lot).
Later that evening, I was spending time with the Lord and praying. I started thinking about Vic. It was sad that he had passed away, but like I said before, I didn’t really know him. I then started thinking about whether or not Vic knew Christ as his personal Savior. I couldn’t say a definite yes or no. Then it hit me. I had talked to Vic those three or four times while he was married to my grandma, and I never took the opportunity to talk to him about the Gospel. And now that opportunity was gone.
I then thought about all the other people in the world who will never have the opportunity to hear the gospel. Then it hit me again. If I only have 60 or 70 years left on earth, what better way to spend my time than sharing Jesus Christ with people who have never heard, or will even have the opportunity to hear? Nothing else really matters. It was that night that God called me into overseas missions.
How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news of good things!"
