So to go on the World Race, I’ll be giving up lots of stuff.
Basic comfort.
In some countries, I won’t have things like electricity, running water, internet, air conditioning, or even a bed.
Time with my family and friends.
Without reliable internet in some places, my only communication may be a short phone call letting my parents know that I am safe.
Holidays: Birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
Because the race is 11 months long, I won’t be home for any holidays with my family.
But…
What will I be gaining?
Growth in my relationship with Jesus Christ.
I know the race is something that I can’t do on my own, and I’m going to have to have total reliance on Christ.
Unconditional love for people.
I am going to learn to love people the way Christ loves me.
Community with my teammates.
Since I’m totally an introvert, this will definitely challenge me. I will be living everyday for 11 months with a small group of 6 to 8 other people. I will live with them, do ministry with them, learn from them, and build a community with them.
Even though I know that the World Race will be really difficult, I know the things I’ll gain definitely outweigh the things I’ll be giving up :).
