What are the desires of your heart? What’s behind the doors? Go ahead, write them down, know them, and know how they can be turning you away from your relationship with the Lord, and how they can be drawing you into a closer dependancy with him
James 1: 14 ” Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give bith to sinful actions, and when sin is ALLOWED to grow gives birth to death.”
( the analogy tyler used is that we birth this sin that is like a baby in our closet, an evil monster baby that drags us in and beats us.. you don’t want to get beat up by a monster baby in your closet!)
So all the DESIRES I have, some good and glorifying to God others evil in nature, all can take control if I let them, “When sin is ALLOWED”. What desires do I let run rampant in my life? Really puts being tempted into perspective I guess. If I am understanding this correctly- when the desires are put into check in the first place then the temption will not have a stronghold or become powerful in my life.
Psalm 19: 12-13 ” How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults. Keep your servant form deliberate sins! Don’t LET them CONTROL me. Then I will be free of guilt and innocent of great sin.”
And finally- just to end read all of Psalm 19.. it has just really been on my heart, and I keep going back to it. I want to have these words written on my heart, to live by them, and to be confident in where my Hope lies because of them.
Psalm 19:14 ” May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, O Lord, my Rock and my Redeemer.”
” The things we feel most deeply, we should remain silent about until we have first talked them over with God.” ~Elizabeth Elliot
