This is it! Well, this is training camp. That’s right, it’s already here. Today I ship off for a week of training for this WR thing. Physically, it only took:

3 shots

4 wisdom teeth removed

4 Typhoid pills

and 4 horrible, HORRIBLE shots in my mouth for fillings (take care of your teeth everyone)

Now it’s time to further prep emotionally. That’s not to say emotional prep hasn’t already begun…because trust me it has. All I’m saying is that a past World Racer told me this week that her training camp experience was simultaneously the “shortest and longest week of her life.” On Monday, she was so worn out that she couldn’t believe she had almost an entire week left, and by Saturday she couldn’t believe it was all over. I believe that’s because it can just be so emotionally and physically (since we’ll be camping the entire week) draining.

Other than that, I can’t tell you much about what to expect at training camp because they really don’t tell us much- this is a pattern I’ve started to notice in most things WR actually. I suppose that’s to better prepare us for not knowing what to expect while we are overseas. Lucky for me though, I don’t mind and I tend to revel in the unknown adventure!

I can however tell you that I’m much more relaxed and ready to attend training camp after spending the last 3 days with half the women from my squad. That’s right! I’m actually already in Georgia with some of these incredible ladies. Julie, one of my squad mates, opened up her home- well really her dad graciously opened up his home, and I don’t think he realized he was saying yes to 20 women sleeping in his garage, living room, and dining room- so we could spend a couple of days getting to know each other before training camp.

Since being here, I have:

made red tutus

eaten more red meat in a couple of days than I have in the last year

figured out I sleep better without a sleeping pad

talked and talked and talked

packed and repacked my pack

convinced 9 girls to but a Mayfly chair! (it’s something bringing with me, and it wasn’t hard to convince them to buy one after they kept stealing mine all day- love you all!)

signed up for Instagram! (so everyone follow me please-rfleets)

and made lifelong friends after just 3 days

I can’t wait for the rest of the week, and I know that spending these few precious days together is going to make training camp that much more memorable- and maybe a little less hard.

Much love to everyone, and see you on the other side.
