Whenever somebody asks why I have gone to a certain place, made a certain decision, or asks me me why I think something is going to work out, my first response is always to put on a smart-aleck smirk and say “Because I’m on a mission from God.” To some this may come off as super deep and holy, but I’m really just quoting the Blues Brothers.

However, when asked about abandoning the comforts of the affluent western world and embarking on an 11 month adventure to do good works for those who need good works done for them in the name of Jesus…well…that answer actually truly applies (no sunglasses necessary). The Blues Brothers may be deeper than we think. In a sense, we’re all on a mission from God, stationed in our various bases scattered throughout the globe. We go about our mission in our spheres of influence- whether it be school, the workplace, the coffee shop we hang out at all the time- awaiting the call of our next assignment.

As for me, my next major assignment is pretty crazy: The World Race. You can get more detailed information if you’re interested here, but in a nutshell it’s an 11 month journey into 11 different countries to support missionaries stationed all over the world. Basically we are sent in to fill a need- whether that’s building a fence, running a camp, teaching, taking care of kids…whatever the need for that particular mission and ministry is, we're there to fill it. It’s a journey that is practical, purposeful and will do good for all involved. And in July, the journey will begin.

I’m not gonna lie, this assignment I’ve been sent on seems a little daunting. Leaving all comfort behind, leaving all those I love behind for 11 months will probably be one of the hardest things to do. But I know I will get through it, I know it will work out, and I know it will be great. Why? Because I’m on a mission from God.
