“Every Good and Perfect Thing”

A cool breeze on a hot and humid day. Millions of stars on a dark, cloudless night. A deliciously made batch of cookies. Words of affirmation from a friend. A steaming hot shower after a long day of work. A hug when you’ve had a rough day.

All of these things make you feel good. They make you feel happy, wanted, acknowledged and can sometimes even make your entire day. Now, take all of those examples, and think about it from the perspective of God speaking to you.

Something I’ve been struggling with since being here in Georgia is hearing the voice of the Lord. There are so many racers and leaders here that have talked about and experienced hearing the voice of the Lord and say “Oh, the Lord told me this today” or “I felt the Lord tell me this” and I feel discouraged and frustrated because I haven’t. I’ve been praying and praying to God to help me hear and discern his voice and I just haven’t felt as strong of a connection as some of the other people have been experiencing. However, in James 1:17 it says “Every good and perfect thing is from above.” Every good and perfect thing. That means every good and perfect thing you experience, think, do, anything, that is God speaking to you. This is God showing you His love. Every cool breeze on a hot and humid day is God saying “Let me bless you today because I love you.” Every star seen or unseen on a dark, cloudless night, every delicious cookie, every compliment or steaming hot shower is God saying “Let me bless you today because I love you.”

Although every follower of Christ longs to hear God’s voice speak to them, it’s not always through His words. God’s character never changes, but the way He speaks to you is constantly changing. So even when you don’t think you’re hearing His voice, that doesn’t mean He’s not talking and connecting with you. You just need to become more aware of God’s presence in your life and notice the hundreds of times He shows up throughout your day. Because believe it or not, He does!

Also, exciting news!!! WE’RE LEAVING GEORGIA! On October 3rd, one week from today, my squad and I will be road tripping the 12 hours to DeQuincy, Louisiana for our first ministry experience! As I’m sure many of you have heard, Hurricane Laura swept through the south of the US, hitting Louisiana hard. Many homes are destroyed, leaving people homeless and in need of help. So, for all the World Race Gap Year squads, we are going to be working with Samaritan’s Purse to volunteer and help with cleaning up after the damage from the hurricane. We are beyond excited and I can’t wait to spend October 3rd-10th spreading God’s love and helping those down in Louisiana. Thank you for reading! See y’all next week!

Much love, Quincy
