We were asked to write a blog about how we felt before leaving on this mission trip.  Here are my top 10 expectations…
  • adventure: I expect to have fun and enjoy doing new things and discovering new cultures.
  • brokenness: I expect to fall on my knees and bow before my holy God completely stripped of everything.
  • community:  I expect to experience true Biblical community.  I expect to learn to express grace and selflessness.
  • discovery: I expect to discover new parts of the world through local people and missionaries and to discover new parts of myself through challenging myself to live outside of my comfort zone.
  • family: I expect to miss my family (biological, friendships, brothers and sisters in Christ) in the United States immensly, yearning for a kind word of encouragement when things get tough on the field.  I also expect to build new “familial” relationships with teammates.
  • healing: I expect to see God heal (physically and spiritually) in ways beyond my imagination.
  • humility: I expect to be humbled and completely stripped of my pride.  I expect to need to submit to my teammates, to the expertise of locals, and to the will of God.
  • prayer: I expect to “pray continually.”  In everything I do with everyone I meet, I expect God to be present in the midst of us.
  • revival:  I expect to experience revival of remote people groups, but even more so in my own life and heart.  I expect to come home with a sense of refreshed purpose and renewed fervor.
  • worship: I expect to worship the God of the past, present, and future… like there’s no tomorrow!
