I AM IN HAITI!!!!!!

Ministry in Haiti has been very broad. The first couple days we walked around and got a feel for who we will be ministering to. Starting this past Monday we went to different communities around the area and started our ministry. Yesterday, my team moved small rocks using buckets to go and fill in pits for a foundation for a house. We moved small rocks, and we constructed an assembly line to move larger rocks. We were doing whatever we could to be a help to these men working to build this house, while just trying to be a light to them.

The next day, we went to this small community in the middle of nowhere. We began to speak to whom ever we came in contact with, sharing with them the power of Jesus. We had a man begin to follow us because he was curious as to why so many blancs (white people) were walking around his community. He saw us praying with people and telling them about Jesus and was eager to share with us that he was a believer. He asked us to go and pray for his mother, who was not a believer, hoping that through our prayers, God would speak to his mother. We walked down the road and went to his house only to unfortunately find out that his mother was not there. We prayed over his house in hopes that the presence of God would saturate the place so that she would feel it and come to know Him.

We moved on to another house where two men were sitting in front of the porch, and this lady was laying on the porch. We began to speak to the lady and tried to get to know her. We asked if she had family, or if she grew up in that community. Meanwhile, out of the corner of my eye I saw a very familiar lady whom I had seen peeking around corners at us while we were praying for others in the community. I noticed she had a little brown chair in her hand and as we began to pray, she put the chair down near us and listened. When we finished praying for the lady we were talking to, this lady in the brown chair approached us asking if we could come pray for her, and that she needs Jesus.

We walk over to this house, a smaller house with a white Christmas tree on the porch. As I dodged chicken, goat, and cow poop, I made my  way to where she was. She began to tell us everything. She shared with us that she had gotten married in 2001, and her husband left her not too long ago. She confessed that she had been seeing another man, even while married, and was so broken in that sin. She told us she wanted to leave all of that sin and follow Jesus. We all got around her and prayed for her, that God would reveal Himself to her in such a mighty way. We prayed that her desire to follow Jesus was real and that He would guide her in all she does. After the prayer, I told her to walk in His freedom, and know that God will never leave her. She sat and smiled while saying “Merci” (thank you).

We moved on from this house and went on a couple houses down to where a few ladies were. We prayed for them and prayed strength over them, as  they do not have much. After we finished praying for these ladies, it was time to head back to the bus. I heard someone singing down the way. As we got closer, I noticed that singing was coming from the same porch that we just left. The porch holding the Christmas tree, and the wonderful lady who just gave her life to Christ. She was singing very loudly and proud, “HALLELUJAH, HALLELUJAH!!”. I felt such a joy in my heart. I knew that this is right where God wants me at this time. A place that is hurting spiritually, economically, and even physically. My heart is here, my heart is with the Haitian people.

I have never experienced such a group of people that crave prayer. I am thankful for a team so willing to follow their eagerness.

In Christ,
Preston
