I’m going to try and not make this sound like an ad in the “personals” section!
My name is Phil Khamoua. I am currently 23 years old. I have been blessed with the most beautiful family inside and out. They all mean the world to me and I don’t know where I would be without them. They keep me grounded and humble in this very crazy world. I am an only child. I guess my parents realized they couldn’t handle another “ME” 🙂 I like to think I don’t fit into the stereotypical “only child” model. I’m very grateful for what I have, I’ve worked hard for what I have, but sometimes I may throw a fit when things don’t go my way, but hey don’t we all at times? Since I am an only child, I have a very close relationship with my parents. I love my both of my parents equally, but tend to be a “Momma’s Boy” at heart. We have been through a lot together and it is going to be SO HARD to leave her behind. She’s very skeptical about me going on The Race, but what Mom really wants their child to be away for almost a year traveling the God’s green Earth? I know she’s just looking out on what is best for me, but God is the only one that knows what is best! Praise HIM.
Alright. Now to the fun stuff!
I love God. Simple as that. We’ve always have a close relationship, but recently he has been working on my heart. By no means am I the most religious person you’ve ever met. I don’t often to go to church, but I pray every night thanking the Lord for all he has blessed me with. I’ve never gone on a mission trip, nor have I anything other faith based work. God has blessed me with SO many great things. Family, friends, career, a beautiful car, a nice home to live in, and so many other great things. I’ve always wondered what I can do to give back to Him. I was introduced to a blog by former WR Rachel Hartman back in June 2009. I’ve never met her, talked to her or anything like that. I was going through a very difficult time in my life and was referred to her blog by Jenny Herz. It’s a long story which I’ll save for another blog, but the WR seed was planted and here I am today writing on my OWN WR blog!
On my spare time I like to read (James Patterson is my favorite author), I have picked up snowboarding and absolutely love it, I often spend hours sitting at the Minneapolis/St. Paul Int’l Airport watching airplanes fly in and out, I have a passion for flying and the aviation world due to my love of the movie “Top Gun”, I can also be found geeking out on “Flight Simulator X” on my PC. I love playing with my baby cousin Hunter, and enjoying dinner with my family on Sunday evenings. When it’s warm out one of my favorite hang-outs is Rooftop at The Drink in Uptown. I’ve had lots of fun with my friends up there, especially with my “Uptown Girls” You know who you are…..
(Cessna 172 Skyhawk. Trip to Duluth, MN) (Flight to Hinckley, MN with Brandon) (Snowboarding at Hyland)
(Roommates: Kyle, Phil, Joe, and weekend roommate Andy)
I love playing and watching sports! Growing up in Texas I have always been a Dallas Cowboy’s fan. Now that I live in Minnesota I have to split my favortism. I love the Vikings, not just because they are my hometown team, but I really think they are a great team with lots of talent. I actually had the pleasure of sitting by star running back Adrian Peterson in first class on a flight from Dallas to Minneapolis. I literally was shaking knowing that I was sitting by a future NFL Hall of Famer. All nerves aside I was able to muster up and ask for an autograph and handshake. I am so blessed to have been able to have a moment like that. I have the same scenario for baseball. I love the Twins as they are the hometown team, but I also love the New York Yankees. It’s great that they win a lot, but i’m in love with the history and tradition of the team. I also love New York City. I was blessed enough to have been able to attend a Yankee’s game in the old stadium against the Boston Red Sox.
(NFC Divisional Playoffs 2010. Dallas Cowboys vs. Minnesota Vikings)
Some of my favorite movies are Role Models, Up in The Air, Dumb & Dumber, Superbad, Serendipity, Top Gun, Rush Hour, Paranormal Activity, Wedding Crashers, Step Brothers, and pretty much anything else that is humorous or scary. The same goes for my music- Mikeschair, Def Leppard, Motley Crue, Micheal Buble, Lil Wayne, Kutless, George Strait, Linkin Park, Jamie Foxx, John Mayer, Journey (LOVE Journey), and Taylor Swift. I’m pretty open to everything. I like to keep an open mind on things and I love to see what else is out there!
(I love my baby cousin Hunter!)
I am super excited/scared/nervous/anxious/terrified/happy/blessed/curious/hopeful about going on The World Race. The WR is going to flip turn my life upside down and inside out. Am I crazy? I look at all the things I have been blessed with. I’ve been very fortunate and I can’t believe I’m going to be leaving everything. BUT…..I’m only leaving for ONE year. I have the rest of my life to enjoy God’s favors and blessings. He has blessed me once, so what is to stop Him from blessing me again once I get back. Maybe they will be even bigger and better blessings than I had before. I am eager to find out.
