When I first decided to join this mission trip, I really didn’t know why. I just knew that for the longest time, it was something I wanted to do and I wanted to serve God in some way. However, this past Sunday, I learned at church what my why was.
I attend a nondenominational church called Hopevale, and right now we are in the middle of a series called plot twists. Last Sunday, the message had dealt with generosity. I learned that generosity is not a natural thing, but a learned thing, and generosity is not about money, but a way of life. In the bible, Timothy says, “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.” “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”
God doesn’t want us to be selfish with our earnings because God has already given us everything we need to be ‘rich’ in life. Whether it’s a talent or a passion, it can be used to help and inspire others. I feel that I have a passion to help people. I have always felt like the person people go to when they need reassurance, guidance, or advice. I have always been that friend. But I want to expand on it and see if I can do more. I want to be able to help more people and touch lives all across the globe. Money can cause people to be evil because they put their hope in this materialistic thing instead of putting their hope in God. “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” Although I am not able to afford this entire trip financially, I have been blessed with enough to get me started. If you would like to help fund my trip, you can do so at the top of my blog page. On Sunday I also learned that we don’t need to know how to feel rich… we need to know how to BE rich.
HOW TO BE RICH:
1. Don’t put your hope in yourself or wealth
2. Be generous with your works
3. Be generous with your wealth
My why is because God gave me the tools to help others. He has blessed me with a kind, empathetic heart and I want to use it to it’s full potential. I feel that God has great things in the works for me, and this is just the beginning.
