One hundred and eighty nine days from today I will be embarking on a new kind of journey. One unlike any I’ve experienced before. This journey is going to stretch me outside of my comfort zone in more ways than one. It already has.
Balkans Philippines South Africa
I will be traveling to these three countries/regions over the course of this year and next to proclaim the word of God. Three months in each country, for a total of nine months on the World Race Gap Year through the organization Adventures in Missions.
I’ve had this longing in my heart for missions for as long as I can remember. This desire and passion to help people. To love on the fatherless. To serve abroad. This feeling of excitement and eagerness to hear more, every time a missionary would visit church. The conviction I would feel when I would hear about orphaned children. I’ve been given this opportunity to fulfill that passion and desire, and I couldn’t be more excited!
Why am I doing this? Why leave the comfort of my own home, my family and friends, the safety and security of my own country? James 2:14-24 states that faith without works (deeds) is dead. If I say I have faith, but I do not act on that faith, what am I portraying? What does that say?
I’ve heard the calling. And now that I’ve listened, I need to act.
“What good is it, my brothers, if man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to him, “Go, I wish you well; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about his physical needs, what good is it? In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that–and shudder. You foolish man, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? You see that his faith and actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. And the scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness,” and he was called God’s friend. You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone.” (James 2:14-24 NIV)
I am beyond excited to see how God is going to work through me to literally reach the world. I cannot wait to take you on that journey with me, as I update you the months leading up to this trip, and while I am abroad.
For those of you who are interested in supporting me. Here are a couple of ways in which you can do so.
First and foremost please be praying for me and my team. A group of roughly 70 people my age will be going on this crazy journey with me. I ask that you please pray for safety and provision as we travel the world! And for me personally, for peace. The thought of leaving everything I’ve ever known, for this length of time is a little nerve-wracking, as you could imagine.
If you would like to support me financially you can do so by clicking the “Support me” tab in the top right hand corner. In order to go on this trip I need to raise a total of $13,805 by August. You can give a one time donation, or you can support me month to month. I am so grateful for any gift given.
If you would like to receive updates on new blog posts, you can do so by clicking the “Subscribe for updates” tab on the left hand side of your screen.
I appreciate you for taking time out of your day to read about my passion. I pray it has impacted your life in some way 🙂
