arrived at our destination, exhausted, and very much in need of sleep.
This is my new favorite airline. Check out the cool logo on the airplane, it has an iguana! 😛
4/2/11 Friday (WR Day 29. Ecuador Day 1)

Woke up to a beautiful view of the mountains partly covered
by clouds. The weather is a little chilly but it’s such a nice change after the
hot and humid Dominican weather. After a breakfast of fresh tree tomato juice
and croissant with jam, I stepped outside of the house. People were playing
volleyball with a hacky sack and a dart game all rolled in one. Further away
people were sitting on the swings doing devotions, some were sitting on the
stairs talking and just enjoying each other’s presence. It’s such a beautiful
picture. It’s so calm, so peaceful, so much joy just being here.
God gives us wonderful moments like there, a little taste of
what heaven will be like. J
We got to explore the central of Quito a little later. Quito
is one cool city. Like seriously. It is very hilly (if you think Seattle is
hilly, this is ten times as hilly). There is not really one level street, you
are either going uphill or downhill. It is a very old part of town and the
buildings are beautiful, like old colonial buildings. Yes, I’ve only been here
for a day, but I have to say, this is one of my favorite cities ever. And it is
so surreal to see the Latino faces clothed in colorful shawls with the cowboy-like
hats. And did I mention that the people here are beautiful? They really are! I
really just love it here. So much.
The streets of central Quito.
The largest church in the area
The hillside is lined with houses. Truly a city on a hill.
We also went to the ‘Museo De Sitio Intinan’, where we could
stand right on the equator (latitude 00o00’00”). Here the water
drains straight down (it really does!) and you can balance an egg on a nail due
to the lack of the Correoles effect. If you pour water down the northern
hemisphere, it goes anticlockwise; and if you pour it down the southern
hemisphere, it goes clockwise. Pretty cool.
Trying to balance an egg on a nail.
Success!
Oh, Quito is just one cool city!
