My
name is Pei Yee. If you can’t figure out how to read that, just pronounce it
like ‘payee’, like the person who gets the money. ๐Ÿ™‚

I grew up in a Christian family, my parents are super supportive in everything I do. For example this World Race, they go all out to help me look for sponsors too even though they themselves need financial support as well because my dad is currently pursuing a Doctor in Ministry with a concentration on Strategic Leadership and have no income to depend on. Their call is to raise up new leaders and strengthen existing leaders in Chinese speaking churches through Equipping Ministries International. (For more information about my parents’ ministry, click here). They helped to vet my support letter and sent it to people on their own mailing list. Thanks mom and dad! It is such a great encouragement to have you guys be so supportive!

My sister Angeline is the fittest person I know. She works out a crazy lot – boxing, running, yoga, gym, gym, gym ….I think I would probably faint if I lived in her shoes for one day.

My brother is a video director/editor in the making (I can just foresee it Ben ๐Ÿ™‚ ). He’s currently pursuing a mass communication degree but already making videos for people, and he says “school’s too easy because I’ve already been using the skills!” Ha!

I graduated with a Biology degree in
2005. I fell in love with marine life and the ocean when I spent a quarter
doing undergraduate research at a marine lab. Had really wanted to continue doing
research on deep sea creatures –  bioluminescing jellies and other weird
creatures of the deep, but it didn’t turn out the way I planned.

False Bay – one of my favorite places on Earth

Of course, there was always endless crabs and shrimps in our labs after we’ve used whatever we needed for research. What do we do with them?

WE EAT THEM OF COURSE!! ๐Ÿ˜€ (no, that is not me in the picture)

I’m currently a
secondary school teacher teaching grade 8 students, and I love my homeroom
students! They are funny, smart, and always willing to learn!

2 Aristotle rocks!

Brought students out to learn about seagrass monitoring. For most it was the first time they have even seen seagrass.

Teaching the local kids how to make grasshoppers out of coconut leaves.

I love backpacking, and I’ve
backpacked on my own to Thailand
and Vietnam, and with a
friend to Indonesia.
Backpacking is fun because you get to see many things and meet other people
(either locals or other travelers) all within a small budget. I also love the
great outdoors. I love the smell of trees and to feel the grass beneath my
feet.

It’s not easy being a street vendor in Vietnam. Those things weigh a ton!

Stunning Mt. Bromo!! If you’ve never been there, it is highly recommended!

I’ve been teaching Sunday School
since I was in High School. I love kids because they believe everything you
say! HAHA….  Nah… because they have such
a pure heart. I’m often amazed how kids are so willing to take up
responsibilities to serve when so many times adults are the exact opposite,
trying to squirm their way out of any responsibilities. Kids also get along
with each other so quickly, just met each other today and they can start
playing together by the end of the day. They teach us adults a lot sometimes.

I could go on and on forever, but I think that gives you a
pretty good idea of who I am.
