I’ve never really worked with special needs kids before the World Race. January of this year, in El Salvador, was the first time I played with kids with cerebral palsy. Call me ignorant, but I didn’t even really know what cp was at the time. Now I’m better informed. This is my last month travelling and my life has come full circle and I’m working with a special needs orphanage here in India.
The first time I walked into the homes here, I fell in love.
I fell in love with their smiles.
I fell in love with their innocence.
There is something so pure about these kids. Pure joy.
I was holding this little boy. Not knowing what physical disability he had. All he waned was to be held. Nothing else. He had his arms stretched out ready to be picked up and hugged. And when we had to leave to say goodbye, I put him down and he started crying. And I didn’t think I would cry, but I did.
Because this little boy was going to have surgery. He has spina bifida and is at a hospital in the city 8 hours away from this small town I’m living in. And the doctors are going to try to fix some of his nerves. He is 3 years old and has gone through the hospital more times than I ever had.
Pray for this little guy. Pray that the recovery will go smoothly. Pray that one day he will have full functioning legs and will be able to walk run jump play.
