So, this month, our host is incredible! Pastor J and his family are missionaries from India that have been working in Cambodia for four years. They don’t have much but they are so happy with all of the blessings the Lord has placed in their lives.
They operate a dorm that offers low cost housing for university students from outlying provinces that have come to Phnom Penh. Pastor J spends countless hours pouring into the students in the dorm through nightly devotionals, Sunday worship services, English classes and more. He knows all of the students personally and is invested in each of their lives.
Pastor J and his wife have three beautiful children, Caleb (8), Sarah (4), and PuiiPuii (2). They are currently attempting to raise funds for Sarah to go to school. She is incredibly smart and she is basically trilingual at 4 years old! Pastor J mentioned that we could help raise funds but was adamant about it not being our focus. He wants us to focus on the college students in the dorm and the students at the elementary school where we are teaching. Pastor J exemplifies what it means to love the Lord and truly trust everything to Him. We feel like God is calling us to bless this man and his family so, we need your help!
On February 13th, I, along with some of our team, will be fasting from food and donating our $5 meal budget for the day to Pastor J. Some of us will be eating very simple food and donating the leftover budget money. We would like to invite you into this event to help bless this incredible family.
If you are able, please join us in fasting and donating whatever money you would have spent on food to Sarah’s school fund. You can fast for the whole day, just one meal, or just choose a cheaper option than usual and donate the leftover money! The easiest way to donate is to my teammate Kaitlyn through Venmo (@notkateupton) but if that is not a possibility for you, please let me know and we can make other arrangements!
Unable to fast for medical reasons, because of a big event or physical activity, or just because getting hangry is a real thing? That’s totally fine! The official date of fasting for Phonics is February 13th but we will be accepting donations starting now until February 20th. Feel free to join us in fasting on February 13th, choose a different day to fast, choose multiple days to fast, or participate in whatever way you would like. This family truly exemplifies what it means to live a life based on Matthew 19:21 where Jesus says ‘If you wish to be perfect, go, sell your possessions, and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.’” They have given up everything and are following the Lord with their entire lives. Please join me in blessing Pastor J, a man who has already been a blessing to so many and will continue to wholeheartedly serve the Lord for the remainder of his life.
