Funniest moment
KatrinaOne day Kearston and I went to a bank to get change for some large bills. The currency in Vietnam is called the “dong”. We told the lady what we needed and she replied, “Oh, you have big dong? Ok, I give you small dong”! We looked at each other and laughed so hard.

Time I saw God move
KatrinaGod moved in my life big time this month. I learned how to communicate with Him in a more real way than I ever have before. Prayer walking was challenging; it was hard to stay focused, but it grew me. I had to actively listen for God’s promptings and choose how to respond to what I was seeing.

Best thing I ate
Paul – Great coffee! Not food, but there were some amazing coffee shops! Caramellate = YUM!

Katrina– We didn’t eat much Vietnamese food. To be honest, Asian food is just not my favourite. However, Ho Chi Minh City had some amazing international cuisines. We ate at some incredible Indian and Italian restaurants!

Who we’re going to miss the most
PaulOur contacts for the month. I’m not allowed to say their names due to the possibility of them getting deported or put in jail if they are caught involved in ministry. I’m really going to miss all of the teachings and lessons on how to pray effectively.
Katrina – We met a lot of wonderful missionaries this month. They taught us a lot and inspired me even more! They welcomed us into their homes, shared their stories and made us home-cooked meals.

Something I learned
Paul – How to “sniper” someone out when you pray for them. Often, we would walk the streets or sit at a cafe and just pray for specific people that walked by. It helped me to focus praying for certain things.
Katrina – How much I really appreciate when a culture preserves its’ traditions and heritage. Ho Chi Minh City was very modern, but had beautiful bits of history sprinkled throughout. I think it’s sad when Eastern countries strive so hard to be like America and lose their identity in the process.

Most challenging moment
Paul – This month was very “easy”, when it came to our physical needs being met. We stayed in a 3 bedroom fully furnished apartment with a laundry machine, dryer, and a pool! We got to ride bikes all around the city so we were staying active as well.
Katrina – Doing ministry in secret and learning to be very careful with what we said. The place where we worshipped had a gate and we had to draw the curtains closed as soon as we entered the building.

Most fun moment
Paul & Katrina – The Mekong Delta river tour we did. We got to ride in a traditional Vietnamese canoe and paddle slowly through the river and then try local coconut candy on some of the islands.

Most rewarding moment
Paul – Being poured into so much this month. We all left feeling “full” mentally, spiritually and emotionally. Our contacts really took good care of us.

Most beautiful site
Paul – Seeing Domino’s pizza delivered to us the first night we got there. It was such a relief after a tough month in Cambodia. Thank you Jesus for good pizza!
Katrina– Standing at the top of the Jesus statue in Vung Tau. It was a tough hike to the top but we were rewarded with an amazing view of the South China Sea. I thought it was pretty cool how “Jesus” stands on a hill in a country where Christianity is basically forbidden and overlooks God’s beautiful creation.
