Funniest moment
Paul – One day, while playing volleyball with the teens at a nearby school, I got a good set from one of the guys and I spiked it and almost smoked Dan right in the face.  Next play comes and I do it again and this time hit Jordan right in the head!
Katrina
Watching Dan chase goats around the field! One day he chased a baby for a good 15 minutes. When he finally caught it, we were worried it might die from exhaustion. OR, when we were guests of honour at a stranger’s wedding and in the receiving line a man brought a goat as a gift!

Time I saw God move
Katrina
When we went to “Freedom Church” at a Cineplex movie theatre in Kampala. God knew exactly what my heart needed – a little taste of home and the familiarity of a Western church and body of believers. It reminded me so much of Connexus!

Best thing I ate
Paul – One time we ate bread and butter for 3 meals in a row … Not a very good month food-wise
Katrina – Paul and I were in Kampala for my birthday and we managed to find an authentic Italian restaurant. It amazes me that in places like this, you can still find good quality food. It was such a beautiful, romantic place and I enjoyed some wonderful risotto, creme brulee, and red wine.

Craziest thing we did
Paul – One day our team hopped into the back of a truck with about 35 other Africans in it and drove into town. There was only room to stand and I was standing right at the back. Many times I almost went flat on my back onto the road; it was like a moving mosh pit.
Katrina – Rafted class 5 rapids on the Nile River!!! It was a crazy adventure that we shared with amazing friends.

Who we’re going to miss the most
PaulSolomon – he was our contact and pastor for the month. He really understood us and where we were at.  It’s always nice to get to a country where they understand the World Race culture. He was very accommodating!
Katrina – Lilly – she was our pastor’s wife, and she was an amazing selfless woman. We had some great conversations about marriage, Canada, the church and culture. She was an incredible servant and an amazing worship leader

Something I learned
Paul – That when God’s calling me to go minister to someone I need to go do it!  I felt like my ministry was to be with the volleyball guys because I really connected with them and felt like we made good relationships.
Katrina – To get over my fear of riding motorcycles! Almost 3 years ago, while we were on our honeymoon, I got in a bad scooter accident, and ever since then I was terrified to ride anything with two wheels and a motor. All throughout Asia I refused to get on the back of one. Then all of sudden this month I felt God saying that I’d be ok. I was scared at first, but Paul was an amazing comfort and encourager. We ended up riding “boda-bodas” every week into town.

Most challenging moment
Katrina – Praying for a very sick old man. One morning we were going around inviting people to a crusade that we were hosting later that afternoon. We entered a little room at the end of a house to find a severely crippled old man. It was evident that he was in a lot of pain; his slender figure was merely skin and bones and his knees and ankles were misconfigured due to an accident. Our team huddled in that room and desperately prayed for healing. It reminded me so much of the story when Jesus heals a paralyzed man after his friends lower him through a roof on a carpet.

Most fun moment
Paul – Spending a few days in Jinja, Uganda with the whole squad. It’s so nice to be able to re-connect with my friends on other teams and play cards or raft the freakin Nile!
Katrina – Being a part of “Super Saturday” – a giant outdoor crusade that Pastor Solomon had been dreaming of for years. There was a giant stage with speakers and a live band. We were asked to perform a few worship songs as the sun set over hundreds of Africans worshipping in a field.

Most rewarding moment
Katrina– Speaking at an all-girl’s boarding school for their Sunday Chapel. There were hundreds of girls and I spoke about dreaming big dreams (based on Jeremiah 29:11 and Philippians 4:13). It was such an inspirational place with well-educated and responsive girls.

Most beautiful site
Paul –  Walking through hills of cornfields while going door-to-door. The landscape of Uganda was absolutely beautiful. We stayed just outside of the city, so the fields were stunning.
Katrina– Standing on the bank of the majestic Nile River. It was pretty cool to be in a location that we read about in the bible and there were tons of monkeys running around!
