Every evening this month my team and the other team that was with us would go to a soccer field and play with the kids there. We would bring a Frisbee, soccer ball, and a beach ball to play with the kids. For the last week we would act out bible stories for the kids who were there.
After we were done I was ready to go back since I had plans to go to a seafood restaurant but I as I was walking back I saw a white guy from Australia. I have not seen any other white people in that village all month (we had 2 days of ministry left that month). So we got talking and he said he was there to encourage and help build up a local pastor in Africa. So I started thinking that he would be a good contact for the World Race. So he explained that he was a missionary under a different origination that was located in Australia. One of my team mates were talking to the Pastor about what he did here.
After some time passed we started to walk towards his home and stopped at the interaction of the street where he lives and were we were staying (we were still about 5 minutes away from where we were staying). I stated to ask him question about what he did there and I stated to share a little bit about the World Race with him. I gave him the basics like $5 a day for living, did he have space for 6-8 people to show up and what future racers would do if they showed up to his location. I then had him fill out the forum to get his basic contact info to be sent into AIM.
I say that Logan was still talking to the guy from Australia, so I asked him how he was called to come there. His story was amazing and I will share it since it is so cool how many times God showed up. We went to his house and he offered us cold drinks so I got a coke and Logan got a Fanta. So the guy from Australia told us that we need to take God out of the box we put him in. One interesting thing that he said was that even though Adam knew that eating the fruit from the tree that God told him not to, his love to Eve was so strong that he thought he would be worse off without her in the garden and chose to live with her outside of it.
James was a well to do man, he had a good paying job and good home but as he kept on working he kept felling that God had more for him. So he sold everything he had and then God told him to give all that money away, and he did. He then moved into a house with only enough money for 3 months of rent to do what God had in store for him. At the end of the 3 months he had no money in his bank account, and no money or anything he could sell. So the landlord said this month is a free month, so he was able to stay for another month. At the end of that month an old friend came by with a truck and was shocked to see him there in a village where people do not have much. He told him what he was doing and he gave him some money. As time continued to pass he was given a chair, a couch, a tv stand and sound equipment by people he was serving. Now after 8 years he has a great house that has all the things you would see in an American Home.
This is a true Unsung Hero that I ran into and I hope that he will have racers with him in 2016. I may have taken an extra 115 minutes to get back home, but it was well worth the time I spent with him.
