Each route there is a week that your parents can come out to the field to visit you for a week and do a week in the life of a racer. It was nicer that what I was use to for where we got to live but it was in a small town with not much to do.
This was the week I have been waiting for a long time. The week that my parents were going to come out to see me for a week. At first, my dad did not want to go due to the cost but in the end he decided to come and I am glad that he did. As usual they did not give us much of an idea of what we were going to do that week so we had to be ready for what ever came our way
The people who had parents came all had to meet up in the same city where we were going to be for a week. The city was a small town with not a lot to do tourist wise so it was a great place to spend a week. The racers all walked out to that parent hotel from where they were and got there right on time but the bus was about an hour late. The bus drove right past the road they needed to turn on to get to the hotel but they drove past it twice. All the parents waved at us as the bus drove by. As the bus was backing in the drive ran it into the pole outside the hotel they were staying at. Each day there was going to be parent racer time and ministry time with their racer.
For the first day we went to a park and got to play with some kids. My mom and dad both played with them for about 2 hours but then my mom went to the tired mom’s bench where other moms were sitting down and talking with each other about stuff and things. There was also a preaching on Jesus and one little girl accepted him into her heart.
On the second day we had the options to continue to tear down an old roof that was made from bamboo or do street ministry. I picked tearing down the roof since guys were needed for it. The roof was covered with sand and cat poop. We decided that the best was to take it down was to remove the little supporting beams between the big ones and hope the roof would just collapse on its own after enough were removed. We used crow bars to knock the small beam out from the big ones since they had nails in them. After taking enough of them out most of the roof fell down. From there we cleaned up and took what was left down. After about an hour we were done. The racers knew that they needed to wait there but the moms and dads were hot and started to go back to their hotel. The host was not expecting for us to get down the fast but we got it done.
On the third day we went to a school and got to share the word of God and pray for some people there. It was really exciting to see both of my parents do this.
We also went sandboarding while we were there. The bus came and got us right after the 2nd day and we had to leave right after we got our lunch. The bus was from 1950, and there were so many people that they needed to bring plastic chairs onto the bus just to fit everyone on the bus. My mom and dad have long legs so they had no room and had to sit in a uncomfortably for what was going to be a 2 hour ride that took 3.5 hours. We got there and had got into a buggy but had to change them since we got into the wrong one. After getting on the new ones we drove up and down some of the dunes then got out to take some photos. We then got back on for some more dunes and then we started going down some hills. My mom and dad had lots of fun doing it and it was a first time for any one to do that in my family. We then got back on the bus for a long ride back and this time my parents sat in the back since they needed the leg space.
On our adventure day I planned the entire day for them. First we went to TGI Fridays, I got ribs there (first in 9 months). I also got a hair cut and then went to a movie with them (Divergent 3). We then went to a market to get things for my parents and me. My mom got a baby llama jacket, I got a llama made from baby llama fur, and my dad got a magnet. We were running late so I went and got drinks at the gas station and told my parents to go on ahead and I would catch up. We got pizza wraps from Pizza Hut since they were cheap and fast. They only gave us 1 when we had ordered 4 of them. We got back like 20 minutes later than we planned to and they did not start till 30 minutes till after we needed to be back at. We got the next morning together as well so we went to TGI Fridays again and I got shrimp there. We also went to their version of Walmart, and walked around for a while. My mom wanted to walk back so we did and she got very tired and wanted an ice-cream or something cold and wet. I offered to get a cold water but she did not want one till after we got back to the hotel. After that we went outside to say good by till the end of the race
Oh yeah, there were also messages that they gave to us every day and at the end of our adventure day in Lima, Peru. My dad found an extra 100 sols in his pocket after he got home. It was a great week full of fun and adventure with them.
