I’ve always loved Life Savers candies, but have you ever wondered why they came up with this name? We all know it is only a candy company and not some life saving medicine. So why did they name it “Life Savers?” According to Wikipedia, “the candy’s name is derived from its similarity to the shape of lifebuoys used for saving people who have fallen from boats.” Okay, so maybe not everyone is like me and has ever wondered about the name. Anyways, there ARE organizations out there who do save lives, but they need our help. This past January thru March, I had an opportunity to work alongside 3 different ministries in Africa and today I’d like to talk about one of them. The name of the ministry is called Bless The Children Ministries and it is run by Bobby & Marsha Baker. I’ve known this couple for many years and they are doing work in Uganda to help save lives. They are the true “Life Savers” in the world, but they cannot do it alone.

Bless The Children MinistriesBless The Children Ministries (BTCM) is a non-profit organization that was created to provide physical, educational, and spiritual needs to orphans and needy children in East Africa (Mabaale, Uganda). I was invited to come alongside them to take photos and videos for their ministry. The purpose of it was to document what is going on in the ministry and help them get the word out about the orphans in Uganda. I personally witnessed some heart breaking stories. There are many kids who do not have parents or other family members to help them. Currently, there are too many kids who need help and not enough sponsors. One day, I watched this ministry have to turn away 2 out of 3 boys who came to them. These boys had traveled many miles on foot in hopes of becoming sponsored. These kids had previously tried to get sponsored, but were turned away then too. This time they came with a note that was signed and stamped by their district representative (like a mayor), asking for BTCM to help. However, BTCM has limited resources and can only take in as many kids as they have sponsors. The ministry would love to someday be in a position to take in all of the kids who need help. However, it currently comes down to taking in those kids who are in the worst situations and considered an emergency (like being extremely malnourished, living on the streets, or who are being physically or sexually abused in their current living situation). Even though all three were in poor situations, 2 of these boys (both brothers) were turned away for a second time because they didn’t fall into the emergency category.

This is why I’m writing you. I know most of you donated towards my World Race mission trip. Therefore, I’d like you to consider partnering with this ministry by doing at least 1 of the 3 things listed below:

1) sponsoring a child ($40 a month or $1.33 day)
2) going on a mission trip to Uganda with BTCM
3) sharing the video below on your social media pages (Facebook & Twitter) to help the ministry raise awareness regarding the orphan situation in Uganda.

Please praying about how God is leading you to get involved. If you would like to contact this ministry or receive additional information, please go to www.btcm.org.
