Last month took us to the border of Burma (aka Myanmar) and Thailand. It was a beautiful place that I called the Garden. Its a melting pot for every walk of life from criminals who live in “no man’s land” to Kirin refugees, to amercian and thai missionaries who run a burger joint called Famous Rays….#themomentyou
Now, take a minute to imagine a gardern in your own mind. Think of all the colors and all the variety. Think about all the different parts that bring it together as one. Really,,,, stop, close your eyes and take in the details.
They’re are so many different types of flowers that need different types of TLC at different times of the day or different times of the year. Now imagine walking out into this garden thats under your watchful eye. Imagine part of your garden is suffering. Would you avoid the ugliest part, would you love it less, would you just put it out of your mind and spend all your time staring at the beauty on the other side?
Mae Sod is one of God’s Gardens. But instead of flowers, He has people there from every walk of life. Buddhists, Muslims, Animists, Hindu, Christian all make up this beautiful place. Despite, their culture or religion, One God shines on all of us. And despite the fact that not one of us deserve such love and care, He delights in tending to each of us. He is constantly sending people into our midst to make His Garden larger, healthier, and more beautiful. He has no favorites, he keeps no record, He wants us all. And once He’s captured a heart He sends it out to tend to another part of His Garden…. to give care and love…..to capture another heart.
Look at the Garden of people around you… and rather than avoiding part of the Garden, don’t be afraid to spend your time with the people who need more light, who need more love.
Thank you Mae Sod-The Garden…..a beautiful place.
And thank you Karim, Si, Za, Manza and Hassein at Lucky Tea Garden for all the cooking lessons.
