“If we could just tie you up, you’d be safer.”
These were the words from an older lady at an orthopedic waiting room as she was escorting her injured friend out the door. I was there because my mom recently broke her arm.
When I heard those words I knew I’d be writing this blog. Why?
Well, so often in our lives we take the “safer” option, which is all well and good. BUT Jesus didn’t call us to be safe, did He? He has sent us out like sheep among wolves, we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered. See Romans 8:35-37. What that DOESN’T mean is ‘well, the Lord called me to the World Race so He’ll keep me safe as I drive 100mph going the wrong way on the interstate.’ What it DOES mean is that we completely die to ourselves, including fear of death, even if our family and friends are concerned for our physical health, it doesn’t matter. My thing is, even if the “worst” thing happened to me on this earth I get to see Jesus face to face and enter into Glory because of what He has done on the Cross. Be encouraged brothers and sisters, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us! 🙂
So, let’s tie this back to the original quote (word play intended).
You might be physically safer in the worldly sense if you were tied up. But who wants to live their life tied up? You can’t do anything, but you’re “safe” so that the place you hold in other people’s hearts won’t get hurt. No one likes pain, but you can’t truly experience life without pain. However, there is an infinitely safer place to be tied, you can do everything, and you get to experience deeper emotions (full spectrum) than anything else. I am of course talking about being tied up, shackled to Christ, there is no “safer” place, literally. And He enables us to everything through Him, nothing is impossible.
So be encouraged!
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:31-39 (NIV)
Boom! Have a great day! 🙂
