“Everyone likes you, you do great work, but you just don’t have the leadership qualities we’re looking for…and sometimes it just comes down to a gut decision.” The words I was NOT hoping to hear from my former boss. I had been working with the local power company in Columbia off and on for about two years finishing up my degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University. Working for the power company would be a steady and stable job. God had other plans.
I still felt like I was supposed to stay in the Columbia area, so I asked Him what He wanted me to do. “Go work at Chick-fil-a.” No. I have my degree in Electrical Engineering I’m NOT working at Chick-fil-a. I applied everywhere around Columbia for engineering jobs. Then friends of mine introduced me to the World Race. The World Race lines up with my heart for the nations so well; I was so excited when they accepted me! Thank you Jesus! So, what do I do for the next 9ish months? “Go work at Chick-fil-a” this time with a sense of a friendly grin and elbow nudge (as if He knows what’s going to happen). Fine! I’ll go apply, maybe it’s just an Isaac sacrifice and then You’ll open doors for engineering.
I applied at Chick-fil-a near my house in Irmo. A week later I got called in for an interview. I was shocked at how excited I was for an interview with Chick-fil-a. Maybe it was being out of work for a month and a half, or maybe it was the Lord, but I was SO EXCITED for that interview! I got the job and now I work in the kitchen at Chick-fil-a!
I felt like He said that I’m there to learn lessons that I couldn’t learn other places.
One thing He’s stripped me of so far is entitlement, or a sense of entitlement. And He’s growing me in humility and obedience to authority. He has shown me that the titles given by men mean NOTHING to God, nothing.
I’m excited to see and learn all that He has planned for me at Chick-fil-a! 🙂
