Bruce Lee

On our first ‘off
day’ from ministry (there are really no off days from ministry, it just takes a
different form) here in Guatemala we decided as a team to visit Guatemala City.
We spent most of the day meandering around the main square, cathedral, and
market. Most of the team was out wandering in different groups and Katherine
and I found some shade and sat down to people watch. After some time a man came
up and sat on my right. He seemed very friendly so I did my basic ‘introduce
yourself’ type Spanish. Like, hey how are you, my name is Paul I’m from South
Carolina, where are you from, etc… but in Spanish. I was actually able to have
a decent conversation with him and learned that his name was Lee and he had
spent 30 years in Mexico near Cancun, and that he has been in Guatemala City
for 8 years selling health products like workout type stuff. He showed us his
official bag and gear, but I never felt like he was trying to sell anything, he
wasn’t, he was just hanging out and it was nice. When he learned what we were
doing on the world race his face lit up and he pulled out a worn Bible from his
bag and showed us some pamphlets he gives people. They weren’t tracks, but
something you would give someone who you’ve had a good connecting conversation
with and they simply want more information. Lee uses his business for the
Kingdom of Jesus Christ. He uses it to connect with people on a personal level
and show them the love of the Father. I know this because that’s what I felt
when I was talking to him, genuine love. Towards the end of our conversation we
got to pray for him; me, Katherine, and Rachel (who had come in partway
through the conversation) got to bless and honor this man who is doing great
work for Jesus.  Lee is one of those that
go ‘unnoticed’ by the world. He doesn’t have any books written, he doesn’t have
a fan base because none of that matters. But more importantly he is a
powerhouse in the eyes of our Father; a Bruce Lee in the Spirit.  Jesus did a lot of things while He was here,
but the sole reason He did what He did was to finish the work of the Father.
Jesus was all about His Father’s business and we ought to be too, just like
Lee.  So how can you in your daily life
be about doing the Father’s work? That’s a real question to ask yourself daily,
because there are no ‘off days’ in ministry.
