31 to 8. Almost 4 for every 1. No, that’s not the ratio of bad things I’ve done to good things I‘ve done in my life(Whew! Another thing I can thank Jesus for) Nor is that the ratio of soldiers in the battle of the Alamo… I think???… That’s the ratio of girls to guys on our team for the World Race! Usually I’d be psyched about these numbers to be honest…but I can’t help but laugh when ever I look at my team web page. I have joked with some of my teammates during our conference calls about this subject. It doesn’t matter what gender you are. We all share and want to share the same love that the Lord has filled us with. It’s just funny to me that more girls than boys have stepped up and signed on to go on the adventure of a lifetime. At the beginning of preparing for this mission trip, these numbers didn’t really cross my mind. I mean, who cares what followers of Christ go to serve Him, as long as we’re all one body and work together well for his glory, right?
Its not that I feel that all girls don’t like to get messy or work hard without complaining. I’ve known plenty of strong women that suck it up and fight through the pain. Shoot! There will probably be a lot of girls on this trip that may be more rugged or tougher than I am. So I won’t poke fun of women. At least not over a blog. LOL 😉 AIM (Adventures in Missions) doesn’t prefer to send ALL girl groups out into foreign countries. Makes sense. If possible, they want to have at least one male in each group. So, if you are doing the math in your head, than yea… Looking a little lopsided eh? I’d like to take this moment to apologize to the girls that will be in my group. Sorry. I’m trying to think what it would be like not to talk about guy stuff with other guys for a small time period. That’s just never been an issue. And don’t think it will be something that is going to distract me from my walk with the Lord. I know our band of brothers will be closer because of these numbers during our trip.
I was talking to a good friend of mine the other day. She’s an incredibly Godly woman and was asking me about the other participants in my group. I told her about the number of girls going and we had a chuckle. I said to her, “Can you believe how many girls are going?” Then, in all her wisdom, she stated an opinion that bugged me. She talked about how girls a lot of times mature faster and how girls are prepared to go with God and serve Him more than boys are. Didn’t know how to react at that moment without creating a gender feud. I do think there is some truth in her statement. The women on our team are a living testament of that and I applaud you gals. In fact, I feel like one of the luckiest guys in the world! Right boys? But come on. We guys need to pick up the slack and take full advantage of our opportunities in front of us! This is the experience of all experiences on earth. If you are reading this and know someone who would like to join the July team, please mention this trip to them. I spoke with headquarters today, and they said they are still accepting applicants. So come on everyone. What excuse do you single people have for not traveling the world with the Lord and serving Him alongside other believers!?!
