Tonight I said my first goodbye to my World Race ‘Giraffe’ aka Brittany Dykstra.
Let me give you the story behind the title, as I’m sure you’re wondering why I’m calling Brittany a giraffe!
One day during Training Camp last June, our squad was told to split in half.
Half of us were ‘Lions’ and the other half were ‘Giraffes’.
We had just finished packing up all of our stuff. Again. (This was a daily ritual at Training Camp, getting into the groove of packing and moving frequently).
Our backpacks were thrown under a giant tarp and our trainers told the Lion half of the squad that all of our belongings had just been ‘lost during travel’ by an airline and we’d be without them until the next day.
Lion Patricia ‘lost’ her stuff and got paired up with Giraffe Brittany to share supplies for the night.
Y’all, this was our first bonding moment and when I knew I had a good friend on the Race!
This wonderful lady willingly let me sleep in her tent and use her sleeping pad that night while she set up her hammock.
From the start of the Race I have greatly respected and admired ‘Burt’ as we lovingly call her. 🙂
She is a great leader, a wonderful listener, and always has a positive attitude no matter where she is!
We share a love of Psychology, Hearing people’s stories, Sweet potato’s, Healthy living, and Dutch ancestry.
It doesn’t get much better than that!
Burt, I’m gonna miss you a lot! Thank you for all memories, kind words, quality time and sweet potato dates we’ve shared.
This isn’t goodbye, but see you soon.
Love your Lion – Patricia.
