He is risen! Hallelujah!

On this beautiful Easter weekend, my team visited an orphanage here in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe. We split up in half between the older and younger kids.

Myself, Alexis, Caitlin and Teresa (our Squad Mentor) took the older group of kids, ages 12+.

You could say our morning started off a little ‘hectic’…

The kids were snippy and fighting each other and just plain not listening to us. I was a little frazzled by the time lunch hour rolled around.

Then it was time to regroup. We had a game plan – sit the kids down and talk about the significance of Easter and ask the kids if they would want to accept Christ into their lives.

For the first bit we were met with bored, distracted faces. Then Teresa stood up and asked the kids about their belief in God and how they knew what getting to Heaven actually looked like.

In the end, all of them accepted Jesus into their hearts and you could see a noticeable difference in a lot of them.

In particular, Rita, a 15 year old girl who had been at the orphanage her entire life, really stood out.

The Rita we had met in the morning was snippy, ill tempered and did not give two hoots about what anyone thought.

The Rita standing before us after accepting Christ, was a completely different girl. She had asked Teresa for prayer to stop gossiping.

After the prayer Rita was on fire for Jesus and she said she felt changed and new as a daughter of Christ and that she wanted to tell people about God!

One of the most astonishing things was hearing her prophesy over her friends. And then over our lives (myself, Alexis and Caitlin).

This wasn’t random gibberish. She was speaking truth over our lives, hitting on notes that we hadn’t even told her about. The Holy Spirit was on fire in her!

We get to see Rita and her friends again in a few days and I’m really excited to see the growth there!

Dear Rita,

You are a beautiful, treasured daughter of the King. Keep clinging to Him and this newfound gift He’s given you. Shine your light bright in a world full of darkness.
