Do you ever feel isolated? Pushed to the side? Insignificant?
Your not alone.
Rejections sting hurts deeply, and can leave behind nasty scars that can take a long time to heal.
This is especially true when rejection comes from the people closest to us, those we depend upon, and open ourselves up to.
Rejection can be:
- A friend choosing someone or something else over you
- Messages that get delayed replies or no response at all
- Being ‘that one person’ in a group that feels overlooked or left out
- A bad grade
- Poor work review
- Negative comments about looks or social skills
- Feeling unsupported or undervalued in goals and dreams
This list could go on forever. The more pressure we put on ourselves, the more depressed and anxious we become, because of what we are not.
We put pressure on ourselves to fit what we believe everyone else wants us to be. We start to wish that we were prettier, smarter, funnier, skinnier…
We all want to be accepted; to be told that we are valued, wanted and loved.
“Acceptance is like an antibiotic that prevents past rejections from turning into present-day infections. The need for belonging runs deep.”
? Lysa TerKeurst, Uninvited: Living Loved When You Feel Less Than, Left Out, and Lonely
So, what next? Wallow in our hurt and anger? Retaliate? Retreat?
‘And I saw that all toil and all achievement spring from one person’s envy of another. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.’
Ecclesiastes 4:4
Jesus didn’t compare Himself to those around Him. He didn’t hold a grudge or seek His value from others.
Instead, He loved on people, forgave them and turned the other cheek. Jesus didn’t need approval from other people because He had His Father’s approval.
Christ like love is a decision, desires whats best for others, understands & accepts, does not calculate the cost of giving.
Christ like love is patient and forgiving and takes time for others.
‘A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.‘
John 13:34
So lets surrender our hurts; our shortcomings, and lay them at the cross.
Lets allow Jesus to heal our hearts. Show love even when it’s hard.
Just watch what He will do in Your life.
