Well i was expecting the “you’re in a foreign country” feeling but it has not happened so far.
Being here feels very natural, I can’t really communicate, but i can still understand a little of what’s going on.
We are spending the first couple of days in a launch process and just getting reaquainted with our team members.
I have been blessed to be working and sharing life with Rachel Richard (pronounced re-shard),
Amanda Thompson, Scott Sexton, Dan and Becky Haverkos, and Amy and Jared Christian.
Together we are team Agape8 (we have shirts to confirm this).
So Today we were told to write something insightful so i will share about Maria.
She is this bonita (beautiful) 14 year old working with her brother selling jewellery, trinkets,
cloth, and other souvenirs from their street stall. Maria does not go to school anymore as she is
working full time to support her family.
We found Maria yesterday (2nd June) when we had a group ATL (Ask the Lord). As we were praying
I had this vision come into my mind, and i just saw over and over a girl sweeping water off a step.
So walking along the streets of Panajachel, Guetemala, sweet Maria was there sweeping the water off of
her step. At first i wasnt sure what to do now that this had come into reality, but this is why we are in a team.
Amy and Amanda walked over to her and in absolutely rediculous hand gestures and very limited spanish we found out a little about her.
I wasn’t sure what God wanted us to do, so we all prayed blessings and love on her and her family.
We went back to the same stall today and Maria was with her brother Ronaldo and so again we chatted
and talked about how they were going. We had an AIM staffer help us out with translation this time so we got to know a bit more about her and her family.
They went to a church nearby and they had many brothers, this time they asked us to keep them in our prayers before bed.
I still don’t know the purpose why we were sent to them, but the thing i am learning is that God is in control. We don’t have to know the answers when we trust him. We just have to do as we are told.
Be obediant to God for God is good.
