However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me—the task of testifying to the good news of God’s grace. Acts 20:24
I consider my life worth nothing to me…
These are heavy words. These are words that have not found a resting spot in my heart if I am completely honest.
I have so many aims, many of them highly celebrated by the world around me. Get married, stay fit, relax, have fun, the list could go on and on; but count my life worth nothing? That is one I really haven’t owned up to yet.
Its funny to how we spend so much time looking and chasing things that we think will bring us life. The Bible is clear that if we really want to live we have to die. The gospel demands death and promises life.
Jesus asked the father if there was a different option other than the cross; I tend to do the same.
Jim Elliot said, “He is no fool who gives up what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot loose.” I want to really learn the meaning of what it looks like to lay my life down, what it means to die that I might live!
I challenge you to ask that question, “What does it look like to lay my life down today?”
It might be loving your family with a full heart. It might be a conversation with a co-worker that you know needs a real relationship with the Father and with you. It might be selling everything and going to a place where the gospel has yet to go.
Father what does it look like to loose my life today? Teach me to die to self that I might truly live. Thank you Jesus.
Here is a song I wrote about a year ago about this very thing…
