I knew we had to stop as we drove by the man holding a cardboard sign, his feet planted firmly on the red Georgia dirt that lined both sides of the road. I extended my hand to his and he began to tell us of the financial trouble that had hit him and his family in the past months.

His name was Richard. He was a tall man, tattoos lining his wrists. He was a man doing what he had to for his family. There was hope in this mans heart, Jesus was there. We gave him what we had and then we asked Jesus to do what only he could do. I prayed over Richard telling him there was no room for shame in his life and that God was providing for his every need.

This man is no different from you and me. This man was simply a man in need.

“Sharing the gospel is one beggar telling the other beggar where to get food.”

I heard this quote a couple of nights ago and it awaked me to the reality that we are all in need. It might not be financial, but no matter if we feel it or not we are in need of our God, Jesus Christ. Just as there was no need for the man on the road to feel shame about his need, we are free to be needy. God designed it this way.

At the center of pride is a heart that says I can do this on my own, a heart that says I’m fine. If you really are honest with yourself its not hard to see that your not fine, not on your own. Embrace your neediness and by doing so you will find yourself wrapped up in the Lord.  For its not the healthy that need a doctor it’s the sick, and its not the perfect that need a savior it’s the needy.

Set your heart on things above,
Pat
