I’ve realized lately that I’ve been posting a lot of things talking about what my team and I are doing and what we’ve been learning but… who is my team? Well, I thought I would introduce you to them! So I’m very pleased to show you… Team Covenant!
First we have Drew. Drew is from Texas, loves photography, and looks almost the same as I do from behind. He has a joyful heart and is someone I can always look to for a smile.
This is Luke, from Indiana. He’s long, like a noodle (that’s a joke because he’s 6’4”). Drew and I like to yell his name like the locals do. They call him, “Looka.” He’s a very peaceful man, and is always full of energy to play with the kids that come to the school we live at.
Meet Christian! From Georgia originally, and recently moved to Arkansas. Obvious lover of dogs. And I think this photo perfectly represents the rest of his personality too: we as a team like to call him the Gentle Giant. He’s extremely hard working, and caring at the same time. I always feel calm around him.
Next we have Sam, from Georgia. He’s really smart, and very talented. Just the other day he taught me about white balance (photography things). Although a little quieter at first, it’s been a delight to talk to him more as he’s begun opening up to everyone. I can’t wait to watch him teach more.
Here’s Travis, also from Indiana! He’s amazing. His laugh is contagious, and his eagerness to learn more about the Lord is inspiring. Also, he’s an incredible dancer, and a very talented painter. And obvious lover of coconuts.
This is Davis, from Pennsylvania. Clearly he’s a very serious fellow. That’s a joke, because he’s actually a jokester. He’s also our team treasurer! Without his hard work, we would’ve starved by now.
Last of our main team is Brendan, from Colorado! He loves bikes. Like, LOVES bikes. He’s one of our squads logistics coordinators as well! If it wasn’t for him, we would’ve never left Atlanta. I would describe him as hungry. Hungry to see the Lord, hungry to see the miraculous, just hungry for more. It’s been incredible to see.
Stay tuned for my blog (or potential vlog???) introducing our team and squad leaders, Luke (not noodle Luke) and Luis! The guys and I really love these two a lot, and in just our short time together they’ve already taught us so much.
So you may be wondering… why are we called team Covenant? Well, at training camp we were tasked with coming up with a name for our team that would last the entire nine months. We had no idea what we were doing, so we decided to pray. That led us to the story of Jonathan and David.
In short, Jonathan gave up everything for David: his thrown, his family, and ultimately his life. They were the definition of brothers by choice. And when David entered Jonathan’s house to serve his father, we’re told that, “Jonathan made a covenant to David, because he loved him as his own soul.” We decided on the name Covenant to remember this relationship. This is one of the most intimate, non-romantic relationships in the entirety of the Bible. We want to remember this relationship and strive for it among one another.
Until next time
