It was this past summer… looking out at my horizons, and my frequent prayer sounded a little something like, “Okay God, I graduate in December, what should I do next?”
I had graduate assistantships offered to me. Friends had talked me into traveling with them in January. There were so many good options… but I wasn’t really sold.
One day…
I was perusing through Instagram, and a notification popped up.
Your Facebook friend Ally Tenney just joined Instagram as inadarkally.
“Hey, I know her. Let’s check it out!”
Sorry to put you on blast Ally – but with only three posts, I gravitated to the link in her profile. (spoiler alert: Ally and I are on the same squad! You should go follow her blog at allysontenney.theworldrace.org and show her Instagram some love)
I looked through it and I was amazed at what she was gearing to do! Raising money for a 11 month mission trip where she would be living out of a backpack the whole time! Living out her faith around the world! Immediately, I explored the website and took the test to see if “I had what it takes”. With every response, I was reaffirmed that this was for me. Soon after someone sent me an email from the office offering to answer any questions I had.
The seed…
It wasn’t long before I was riding my bike, thinking and praying about the race. I felt like God was calling me to go, but the price really had me worried.
I called the number from the email and talked with Austin. He reassured me that if it was God’s will, He would provide.
I told him I would pray some more and that was that.
…had been planted…
A week or so later, I was down at Seneca Rocks shooting a video for my school.
and guess who I ran into… ALLY!
I saw her, and mentioned something about missions. She lit up! Before I knew it she was facebook messaging me to set up a meeting to chat!
…and nurtured.
Days before our meeting, I started filling out the application! I figured if it was God’s will, I better get a move on before it’s too late.
We meet up, and afterwards I left really feeling the pulled. I was soon leaving for a short term mission trip to Honduras which needed my energy and attention, but before I left, I submitted the online interview.
HONDURAS WAS INCREDIBLE!
The seed grew, and grew, and grew.
When I returned, I hoped on a greyhound for Charlotte to see my family. That week I had my interview, and in that same week, I got accepted into the World Race. It’s amazing how God’s plan unravels itself with perfect precision and timing. We are all just fortunate to be along for the ride.
Stay golden.
