The past week and a half has been a whirlwind of buses, countries, airports, and sporadic sleep. My team traveled from Ocotal, Nicaragua to Ko Samet Island, Thailand for our second squad debrief. Here is a rundown of our travels:
August 30th: 4 hour bus from Ocotal to Managua, Nica

31rst: 11 hour bus from Managua to El Salvador
Sept. 1rst: 12 hour bus from El Salvador to Tapachula, Mexico
2nd: 17 hour bus from Tapachula to Mexico City
4th: Flight from Mexico City to LAX (I got to see my family and friends…yay!)
5th: Flight from LAX to Taipei, Taiwan
6th: Flight from Taipei to Bangkok, Thailand
10 min. boat ride to Ko Samet Island for debrief
Highlights of travel:
- Hot water shower in El Salvador, the first one since leaving home. It also did not involve having to use a bucket.
- Dinner at a mall in Managua in which Ashley sung ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ to the entire food court
- Meeting up with other teams throughout our trek and catching up on the month
- Hanging out in Mexico City with the squad
- Seeing my family and friends in LA for a couple hours
- Knowing that my bag weighed at least 10 pounds more than all the stuff my parents brought the team in LA and laughing that my dad complained about the weight (haha, sorry dad….you’re the greatest)
- Dan and I splitting a cupcake for breakfast on the plane
- Getting exit rows on all the flights!
- Ending up on a gorgeous island for debrief in which the beach made me feel so at home
