Philipp and Hannah are married!

Put yourself in my shoes, and you’ll find yourself in a crazy week!
I was building a church from adobe bricks in a village in Rwanda, plastering the walls with mud to the tune of African songs. We were praying for the sick, preaching at church, ministering to widows, sleeping under bug nets, meeting new friends; you know…Africa. We walked miles each day, getting blisters on feet.  Then all of a sudden, I got on a plane alone (first culture shock) and flew to my home sweet home: North Carolina!

Alles meine liebe Schwestern

There was my brother and his family to greet me, my younger sister who happened to grow taller than me in the last seven months, and my niece and nephews! Everything was green and beautiful in the mountains.  And by the way, culture shock two: Americans are rich, yo!  Cars, nice everything, huge selections, paved roads, Wal-Mart; wow.  I can’t say the automatic everything in the airport restroom didn’t startle me more than once.  Anyway, I saw the rest of my family at home; they were all there for the wedding.  I had counted down the hours on the airplane, and was never more excited in my life to see everyone.

Meine Familie

Philipp–the groom–and his mom flew in from Switzerland that night.  It was great to finally meet him in person and use my German!  It was spoken a lot in my house as my Oma came into town, visitors from Helimission Switzerland, and Joyce and Fred–two translator friends from Hannah’s Swiss church.  It was kinda surreal, returning to our roots.  Haha.  My brother Ricky gave Hannah away, a really bittersweet moment.  I love my brothers to pieces.

Das glueckliche Paar <3

My heart is full with memories of making a cake with Valerie and Bethany, worshiping together and praying over Hannah and Philipp, shoe-shopping with Mom, catching up with Nick and Daniel, dancing at the wedding, seeing my friends, hugging, hugging, hugging people; getting lost in Target, driving a car (it’s the little things. 😉  That’s why, on Sunday…

…I hated the flight back.
It was a roller coaster of emotions, missing Hannah who now lives in Switzerland, and thinking of my mom moving to a new house on Saturday, and friends who are like family moving to Romania next Winter.  Eesh.  Can’t say I didn’t cry.  But I know that God is with my family, just like He’s with me. I look at these next four months and think of all the rich things God has in store for my squad and I on our Race.  My heart is overflowing with thankfulness for God’s blessings, even my whole team coming to meet me at the airport.  🙂

Thank You Jesus!

Heads up!  Next blogs will be about what I’ve learned on the Race.
