Bon jou!
Me and my team have arrived in Haiti. We are staying with a ministry called Supply and Multiply. This month is all-girls month, and all of us girls teams are staying together in the “fishhouse”.
It is our fifth day here in Montrouis(mo•wee). I’d love to give you an idea of what our ministry looks like here. This month, part of our ministry is helping take care of the granmoun(gran•moon) (the Haitian word for elderly people) and spend time with them. Supply and Multiply has what they call “Matthew 25 houses” in a few locations near us. These are essentially elderly homes where three to four granmoun live. They get 3 meals a day and are bathed and taken care of. In the Matthew 25 house we have been visiting, there are three granmoun women who live there. They were all taken to the Matthew 25 house because they were not receiving the proper care they needed at home. It is apparent that they are being treated with the utmost care and respect here. The other day, we walked to the Matthew 25 house in Mango and shared a meal with the women. Elision, one of the granmoun, loves to dance, but she can’t get up and dance due to medical restrictions. So after a while, we all got up and danced and looked like fools to entertain her. I watched as she began to get comfortable and get her groove on. When we left, she told Adam, our ministry host, how much she enjoyed us coming. This is just an example of one of the many things we are doing here. Other days may look like doing house visits, leading youth group, leading a bible study for the kids, leading a women’s health group, teaching vacation bible school, going to choir practice for Sunday church, volunteering at a children’s home, playing with the kids in the ocean, and much more. Our days are full and long and we all are very ready for bed by the end of the day. But I am so thankful for the time we have here. I cannot begin to tell you how much the people here have already impacted my life. I’m inspired to work harder and be thankful for what I have. Please continue to pray for me and my team. For patience and strength and energy especially. We have a teammate who is ill, so please cover her in prayer as well!
Mesi, bon dye bene ou! (Thank you, God bless you!) Sending my love and prayers home!!
