I want to bring you into a little part of my life here in Kampot and share what my normal day would look like. My life here is very simple and I love it .
I wake up under my mosquito net throne at 6:30
Roll out of bed and walk out the door to spend time with Jesus at the kitchen table with the rest of my team. I am beyond thankful that I have a place that I can just sit with Jesus and praise Him in my pajamas. In that time with the Lord I am always wrecked, enlightened and beyond blessed for what he has for me that morning.
Then at 7am two people from my team will go to the market with my host and grab some breakfast. Usually we have waffles (YES waffles, the Lord really knows the desires of my heart) and some fruit. I love breakfast with all my heart and am so glad that I get to have waffles with my main man Jesus every morning.
We then either have intersession or house visits starting at 8:30. Intersession we have once a week and I LOVE it. Vouthy, our ministry host, and the other people on staff with YDC will lead us in prayer for this community and for the ministry. Some prayer requests for the ministry are: their coconut oil business could come to America and it could bring more jobs to the community. They are trying to build a community center on this plot of land next us, pray that the money will come in. Pray for the staff and that more could catch their vision and join their team.
The other days we go do house visits which are some of my favorite times. We get to go adventure through our beautiful village and go speak with people that our hosts have made friends with. Some know Jesus and some are deep in the Buddhist faith. We get to share testimony and encourage them. What is better then that? We have one friend that we see everyday, her name is Ruth. She owns a little stand down the street and we go buy a tea or coffee and read the bible with her. She is such a hard worker and struggles with depression but I can see the Joy of the Lord in her and it is powerful. On Tuesday we got to visit this little old lady who is blind and can not walk. She is literally my favorite person. She has so much joy and just laughs and tells stories. We got to pray over her and the presence of the Lord just covered her. She is so content with who and how she lives and it is so beautiful.
Then we have lunch at 12 and that is cooked by Vouthy’s sister. It is ALWAYS rice and then some questionable meat and vegetables with sweet chili sauce (obviously).
Usually after lunch we will have our team time. Team time is different everyday, either feedback, worship, blogging, journey markers, debriefing the week and a free for all. I always love these times and get so much out of them.
We then usually have a little free time in the middle of the day and will go across the street and buy a drink in a bag and hangout by the hammocks or having some good Jesus time or I take a nap. It always changes but my favorite thing to do in this time is to walk south of where we live and it is absolutely beautiful. Rice fields, mountains and palm trees cover everything we can see.
Then at 2 Caroline and I teach a class of 8-12 year olds. Our teachers name is Chanta and she is my favorite. She is literally insane and so funny. We teach the kids a lot of basic English stuff like the alphabet, the body and seasons (yes, we did teach them about pumpkin spice lattes). We love to take our kids on nature walks and pick flowers with them. I love how we have passed on our passion of flowers with them. One night some of our students brought us the most beautiful bouquets ever, so sweet.
Then a little break after that class to hangout with my team and laugh, its a great time.
At 5:30 I teach a class of 13-18 year olds with Cindy and Corbyn. This class is fun because the kids can speak English and can sing and dance with us. We teach harder subjects that I don’t even understand like complex vowels (like what is that, lol). We also try to make it like a youth group and play games, teach them about Jesus and have small groups. It is a lot of being laughed at but I thrive off of that so its okay.
We then eat dinner at 6:30 which is same same as lunch. But we usually eat in the dark because there are so many little bugs and wouldn’t you rather not see them as you eat them.
After dinner looks different every night. Some times we workout or play games or watch a movie. But I love this time because I get to hang out with my friends. I am beyond grateful that my perspective on the team has gotten so much better. I love the people and I love to be with them.
I then go to bed at 9 or 10 every night and hope and pray it gets cold enough to put a sweatshirt on in the night.
We live very simply here but it is so so sweet, so thanks God.
