How to effectively share Christ in your community?Megersa Weyessa, Children’s Village manger
HOPEthiopia shares Christ a lot through their staff. They employ around 40 people and 90% of them are Christians. They go into the community and churches and are empowered to be leaders.
Before HOPEthiopia came to this community there was only two really small churches. Since being here the churches have grown and there are more. This community isn’t that open to hear about Jesus Christ. Even though they speak the same langue the locals get very upset and offended.
They also spread the gospel but going to homes. They sponsor a number of families and visit them often to encourage and ask questions. This really challenges them to continue to seek Christ.
HOPE sponsors a lot of student to go to school and with that they teach them about Christ. These kids have bible classes and get to learn about Jesus in their schools. The kids who live on the compound all pray before the leave to go to school with their house moms.
A big way that HOPE functions is through scripture. They believe it is there solid foundation, literally. In all the foundations of there buildings there is popsicle stick of scripture. Under all the painted walls is written scripture. They also try to tell the community the power of scripture. When mission teams come they hand out bibles. They also hold trainings here for pastors and church leaders to learn more about the Bible and how to lead their churches well.
Sharing faith in this community is not as easy as other communities in Ethiopia but this people need it just as much. Preaching and teaching is well received in the churches and they continue to grow and be encouraged. HOPEthiopia is living out the gospel very well in how they treat the people of the community.
