From the affects of covid19, there have been some changes to all the missions going out from Adventure in Missions, this includes my WRGY. We weren’t supposed to know until July 1st but the updates have come out early. I don’t know how best to explain it so here is the informational email I received to give you the best view of what’s going to happen. (If you don’t want to read it all, I put a conclusion at the end of this post.)
“We have an update to what your Gap Year is going to look like come September!
We’re excited to announce we will be moving forward with our contingency plan to invite you to our campus in September for a semester of missional training, leadership development and discipleship at our headquarters in Gainesville, Georgia! We’ve created this cool video to show you what exactly we’ve been dreaming up.
No, this isn’t about to be a semester of college. We’re not talking about lecture halls and falling asleep in class. We’re talking about missional living, getting trained to be the leader you’ve always wanted to be and having a blast with your squad mates before your feet hit the field in January.
After much discussion with our overseas ministry partners, we have a high level of confidence that we will be able to launch you overseas in January through May. The exact countries of your route will be determined in the upcoming weeks and months as it becomes more clear which countries will be open and which partners are available to receive teams. In the unlikely event that we are unable to launch internationally come January, we have an extensive network of domestic partners to minister alongside.
Here’s the breakdown of what these things mean:
Missional training: Bringing you to our headquarters for three months means you’ll get hands-on training about what missions is really like and tons of opportunities to flesh that out, starting right here in our own country! Think evangelism, community development and outreach.
Leadership development: Learn from our top-notch leaders how to lead yourself and others the way Jesus led. We’ve got business leaders, teachers and experts in-house and from around the country who are preparing to help you understand what it means to lead yourself and your generation. It’s time to step out of the classroom you’ve been sitting in for 13 years. Learn from experience as you become the leader you’ve always wanted to be.
Discipleship: Have you ever wondered if there is more to church? Or surface-level friendships? Yeah, us too. In this age of social networking, your generation is known as the loneliest on the planet. We want to change that! We’re here to teach you about the selfless, authentic love Jesus always talked about. That’ll probably happen somewhere between late-night pillow talks, discussions about life, Jesus, and the Bible while sweating in the Georgia sun, and enjoying a few dance parties along the way. You will never think of church or community the same.
We will also teach you more about Intimacy with God, Missional training, building an authentic christian community, biblical foundations, preparation for the future, leadership development, worship and story telling.”
Conclusion:
So basically we will be doing a semester of training in Georgia and then we will launch (hopefully) to our countries in January. Our routes may be changed again due to travel and medical complications, however they will still get us to three different countries in three different continents. With this new development in effect, I will be able to return home for the holidays in the fall/winter. (If anyone wants to see me. 🙂 Then after Christmas break, launch to the field.
If that does not make sense or you have any more questions about it, please feel free to send me a message. I will answer your questions as best as I can.
Blessings,
Alex 😀
