A friend reached out to me today to tell me they were considering ending their own life. They told me they had written their last letter to the only one they felt they needed to explain themselves to & told me their plan of execution.
I can’t lie – I was angry when they told me this. Partly because my family was hit by the loss of my cousin earlier this year due to suicide. But more than that, I ached because I knew exactly how they were feeling in that moment. It was a familiar feeling of overwhelming sadness and helplessness. When I was in college I sought counseling for the suicidal thoughts I was experiencing. At that point in my life I didn’t know God’s love for me. I didn’t know that He truly cared about my wellbeing and that His heart was broken for how broken I had become in this world.
So, when my friend reached out to me about this I couldn’t help but try to jump into action. I immediately reached out to my dad to see if there was anything he could do, but being the amazing dad he is, he turned me toward my Heavenly Father. He reminded me just how powerful prayer is and for the Lord to capture my friend’s heart and turn them from the twisted thoughts of the enemy. Because my God is not threatened – He’s already won!
This post goes out to anyone who feels this way because you are not as alone as the world makes you believe you are. You are wanted, loved, cared about, and worthy of living a full & beautiful life. You are sought after. You are worth more than the sum of all your failures. You are cared about by more people than you give credit to. There is hope & a way out.
My prayer is that the King of my heart captures yours & never lets go. I pray that your heart be softened to receiving His love even if you’ve never experienced it before. I pray that you are truly comforted by Him when you bring your troubles to Him. I pray that Jesus becomes real to you & that he’s someone you know can relate because he walked this earth & endured our same hurts, fears, temptations, and trials. I pray that God will move in ways so beyond anything you’ve seen or experienced before that you can’t help but to believe He WILL be faithful. I pray He will be the source of all you need and you’ll be delivered from the earthly bindings of this world; that He will break those chains & you’ll be set FREE! I pray you accept the freedom and mercy and GRACE the Lord gives us through sacrificing His only son – BECAUSE HE LOVES US THAT MUCH!
