Last week, as we brought are bags down our hotel stairs, we were greeted by our hotel owner’s wife. She smiled at us with tears in her eyes and gave each of us a hug.
I thought back to our limited interactions with her over the three weeks we stayed in her hotel.
Conversations held through Google Translate about passports.
Smiles and waves exchanged in passing.
Attempted Vietnamese greetings.
And grace offered when a bag meant for the laundry ended up being taken away as trash.
Sometimes it is the small things that make all the difference.
Often we look for the grandiose ways to share God’s love. But often it is much simpler than that.
Living a life grounded in God’s love is attractive and contagious.
When we love others well and offer each other grace, others can’t help but notice because it is countercultural.
A simple smile can mean everything in a world consumed with itself.
Update: In just a few hours, my squad will be boarding a plane to Ethiopia. We should be landing on the morning of the 30th. I will not have any access to wifi this month, but my blogs will be posted on my behalf weekly. Please pray for us as we enter a new spiritual climate, for heath and safety, and for the people we will encounter.
Thank you for your continued prayers and support!
