I want to share with you a small, simple story about veggie soup night.
It was my teams cooking day, and we were told we had the ingredients to make veggie soup. As I heard this, I tried to keep the worried thoughts in my head because cooked veggies are one of the foods that I don’t particularly like. The mushy texture they have just disgusts me sometimes. I like eating veggies at home most of the time but not if they are cooked. If my family makes something with cooked veggies, I usually pick around them, but this time I thought “how can I do that when literally the only thing in this soup if cooked veggies and a small amount of rice?” I told myself it will be okay and just enjoy the time of fellowship and laughter while cooking with your team and to be thankful for the warm meal. So that’s what I did.
My team had a great time chopping veggies, throwing in random seasonings to the water, and stirring the soup. Before serving bowls through our small kitchen window, I threw up a prayer to God blessing the food for the squad.
In all honesty, my team had no idea how it was going to taste because of the complete randomness of the seasonings. So I was in the middle of the prayer thanking God for a wonderful day, the lives we touched that day, and blessing the food to fuel our bodies for the night. Then I simply said, “We honestly have no idea how this is going to taste, but Jesus, make our taste buds dance with joy!”
And you know what Jesus did? Exactly that!
Everyone loved the soup and said the seasoning was pretty tasty! The veggies still weren’t my favorite because of the texture, but boy did Jesus make my taste buds happy! The warm water and rice with the different seasonings was perfect!
So now whenever I see a food that I am unsure of how it will taste, I simply ask “Jesus make my taste buds dance with joy because of this food.”
This weeks blog was pretty simple, but I hope you still enjoyed it! If you have an experience with a meal that turned out better than expected, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear about your adventures with food too! Also I wish I had some pictures of this night to share with you all, but I don’t. So try to imagine all of this happening in your head!
As always, thanks for reading and supporting me through this journey! Lots of love sent to you and all your families!
