Hey all! I pray and hope you are doing well! If you’re new here or want a little refresher, a little over a year ago today, I wrote a blog about my five core values. I found them by participating in an exercise of narrowing down a huge list of values and finding around 20 values that are truly important to me and my life. After finding those top 20 values, I then grouped them into five groups and picked an “umbrella” word to be my core value of that group. If you want to revisit that blog, here is the link.
Last week, I had my team do this same exercise to learn more about themselves and each other. I decided to do it along with them to see if any of my values had changed, or if I would pick new words. Then in our session on Tuesday, we did another exercise focused on finding out values in life. Dang!! Seems like God was wanting us to learn something here: more about ourselves and who He created us to be.
Anyways, my values changed just a tiny bit, so I wanted to post a blog with my updated umbrella words, descriptions of them, a verse, and how I can continue to grow in each value! So here they are:
- Patience: Being able to endure a time period of learning and waiting often develops trust, brings growth, and makes the best plans. I value patience with myself and with others. I can grow in my value of patience with God when He is revealing future plans to me.
Luke 8:15 “As for that in the good soil, they are those who, hearing the Word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience.” ESV
- Family: A group of people, either biological or chosen, created to have deep community with each other, people you fight for, feel comfortable around, and can find a laugh in any situation. I can grow in my value of family by encouraging my family deeper into their relationships with the Lord.
Hebrews 10:24-25 “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” ESV
- Faith: Complete trust and confident in God and the Gospel which creates joy in life. I can grow in my faith by truly being faithful in all God asks of me and all I pray and ask of Him knowing He will faithfully answer.
Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
- Health: Through discipline, we can create a strong foundation on the Lord by valuing our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health which can eventually lead to deeper growth. I can grow in my value of health by being more disciplined in the ways I choose to honor my body.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Of do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” ESV
- Integrity: Doing what you know is right in every situation because you are strong in what you believe in which can build respect along with courage to follow. I can grow in my integrity of not backing down when I feel drawn to worldly ways.
Titus 2:7-8 “Show yourself in all respects to be a model of good works, and in your teaching show integrity, dignity, and sound speech that cannot be condemned, so that an opponent may be put to shame, having nothing evil to say about us.” ESV
P.S. Here’s a picture of my values sorted with the groups if your interested in those as well!
There ya have it! My updated and revised values! I would love to hear your thoughts about these and hear some of your values as well. If you’ve never sat down and put words to your top five values, I really really encourage you to do so! It’s so so important in knowing who we are in God’s image and seeing how we can live out our values better.
That’s all I have for now, but as always, I am praying for you and can’t wait to hear from you! Love,
Paige :):)
