Hey all!
So, I have been in Romania for almost a week now and wanted to give you all a little update and a small look into what Romania life is like. I’ll be writing about how I’m feeling now, a few pictures of our house and Romania, and my ministry. (Ministry is at the end so make sure you read all the way through!)
To begin with, my last blog expressed my feelings about leaving and, quite frankly, majority seemed a little negative. Since I’ve actually gotten to Romania and started a little bit of a routine, things have been getting better. I am feeling more comfortable being away from home, and it isn’t as hard as I was thinking it would be. I am so so so glad and thankful things are getting better! Thank you for all the countless prayers during the rough patch! I know there will be rough patches in the future, both during my race and when I get back home, and I know I will always be able to get through them because of my AMAZING support system!
Next, a little bit about Romania and some pictures! The scenery is beautiful here, but sadly I don’t have very many pictures so I’ll try to get some posted before leaving to share with you all!
We are staying in a house with a few different rooms, some with bunk beds and some with mattresses on the floor. I get to stay in a room with 3 bunkbeds with my team which has been fun so far!
Food has been very good but filled with lots of carbs! (YIKES!!) It’s all so yummy, so I need to get better about self-discipline with my diet during this time! We aren’t going grocery shopping until next week, so all of our meal have been either bought at a small shop or bought sandwich stuff and made some in the park for lunch. So far my favorite places is “GiGi’s.” They have DELICIOUS pastries that I’ve had way too many of for only being here less than a week! In the picture there is a pretzel with cherry filling and an apple strudel. Both extremely delicious! I am excited to make connections with the employers, because I’m pretty sure I’ll be a pretty frequent customer! The second picture is of a hot dog here. We like to call them “churro dogs” because that’s what it looks like! They’re also pretty good and easy to get as well!
Lastly, MINISTRY!!! One of the most common questions I would get from people before leave was “So what are you actually doing in each country?” And I never knew the response! But now that we’re actually on the field, I finally know!! So here it is…..
Office ministry!! I am working with Annalise to help our ministry host and his go to person/assistant in their office. Majority of the tasks include updating social media accounts (which I’ll tell y’all about so you can look and follow!), checking emails, getting announcements to the squad, and sending out birthday notes. These are just a few things we’ve done along with the possibility and likelihood of help plan events, writing emails to parents, and other miscellaneous tasks.
Back home, I was involved with lots of office/Admin type things, so this type of ministry is right up my alley. I am loving it! A lot of the race is also getting out of your comfort zone, so I am looking forward to the days where Lise and I will get the chance to go out and do ministry with other teams. When that comes, it may look like street evangelism, youth ministry, Roma ministry, or something completely different.
Well, that’s about it for right now! As always, comments with questions or reach out to me if you want! Thanks for reading!!
Lots of love, Paige JJ
