Hey everyone!

I just wanted to give you an update on what happened last month in Haiti.  We were only in Haiti for 2 weeks.  The last 10 days of the month we were in the Dominican Republic.  The majority of our squad came down with the Chickungunya virus that is going around.

It is a virus that you get from a mosquito bite.  It causes a fever, ache joints and a rush.  So many of us were getting sick that the AIM office decided that it would be better for our health if we left Haiti early.  So we left Haiti and returned to the Dominican Republic.  We ended up staying at the exact same place we were before.  We were with an amazing family on top of a mountain!

While we were there, the sick got a chance to become well again.  We also got to help with a English camp, and build a dormitory for future missionaries to stay in while serving in the Dominican Republic.

It was hard to leave Haiti early.  I understand why the decision was made and I am glad that our health and safety is a priority to AIM.  We will be here for 2 more days and then we fly to Puerto Rico for our final month on the race!

Sorry for any confusion I may have caused in not explaining why we left Haiti early!  Sometimes I think that everyone back home knows what is going on and I forget that you actually need me to tell you.

Love,
Paige
