I am sitting in my Moms home office currently. Looking out the window, I can see light snowflakes falling slowly to the ground. I love the winter. Snow is one of my favorite parts of winter. I live in Wisconsin and we see many cold and snowy winters. When I was younger, I waited with anticipation for the first flakes to fall. I'd be the first one out the door to play in the winter wonderland. Sometimes when we get a particularly big snow storm, I love to stand in the middle of it and pretend I am in a giant snow globe that someone just shook up pretty good. Some things from our childhood we never lose. Although I don't rush out to play in the snow anymore, I still loving watching those snowflakes in wonder.
Watching the snow, I wonder about my journey. I wonder what I will see. What I will feel. What I will learn. What I will do. There is so much to wonder about. Sometimes my wondering gets me overwhelmed. But I do it anyway. I am so excited for this journey. I don't know if any of you have watched the movie Bolt, but there is a particular hamster in that movie. I believe his name is Rhino. His favorite superhero of all time, Bolt a crime fighting dog with super powers, has just arrived at the front door of his RV. Seeing the opportunity for greatness, he humbly asks to be recruited for the mission. Here is the dialog that follows:
Rhino: Bolt! I can be a valuable addition to your team…
Bolt: I'm listening…
Rhino: I'm lightning quick, I have razor-sharp reflexes. Wha! And I'm a master of stealth.
[laughs]
Rhino: Plus, I'll keep the cat in check.
[Mittens rolls her eyes]
Bolt: [Gets down close to Rhino's ball] The road'll be rough.
Rhino: [indicates] I have a ball.
Bolt: There's no turnin' back.
Rhino: Guess I'll have to "roll" with the punches!
["surfs" his ball]
Bolt: Easy won't be part of the equation…
Rhino: Promise?
Bolt: I gotta warn ya, going into the belly of the beast – danger at every turn.
Rhino: [getting closer] I eat danger for breakfast!
Bolt: You hungry?
Rhino: [cracks neck] Starving!
It is as simple as that. If I could have had a conversation with God about my own journey, it would have looked similar to that of Rhino and Bolt's. I am aware of the dangers, the uncertainty, the unknowns, the challenges and the cost of my own journey, but nothing will detour me. I have a passion for my Heavenly Father, I heart for travel, and a hunger for The Mission. I couldn't say it any better then Rhino.
"Let it begin, LET IT BEGIN!"
