9:45
Bus Station
Wearing red
I ran into Jenny in the bathroom after my revelation and I told her the whole story. She thought that it was awesome and volunteered to go along with me in the morning to find Angel. I had considered not telling her because I didn’t want to be held accountable. I knew if I hadn’t told her I might have backed out by morning.
The next morning we met and walked the block to the bus station. I felt a little silly but there was an excitement to it all. Was I really going to meet Angel again? I had butterflies in my stomach as we neared the station. We walked to the middle and found a bench in plan view of the entire station. We sat down at about 9:45, beginning our search. As I scanned the crowds of people looking for that familiar face, I prayed.
I asked that we would remember what she looked like. I was also praying God would give me the words to say to her because I had no idea what I was going to say. Time ticked on and Jenny and I continued the search. It was funny how many people were wearing red that day.
I told Jenny if it got to be after 10, we could go back. As we waited we talked a little about the whole experience the previous day with Angel. We both agreed that it was a learning experience. It was cool to be able to share with each other how we grew from it.
I began praying again. I got the feeling like we were not going to see Angel again. As we sat there my prayer changed, I prayed that God would send someone in need to receive the gift I had. I told him that I just wanted someone to be blessed, even if it wasn’t going to be Angel.
When we first sat down I had noticed a man sitting behind us. He had on a deep red, almost maroon color shirt. He was sitting on a bench that was full and so I didn’t see how we could squeeze in and talk to him. So I waited. I said, “God if this is the man you have for us to bless, I will go and pursue him at 10, if he is still sitting there.”
Finally 10 rolled around and no Angel. I told Jenny how I was feeling about this man in maroon, and she didn’t hesitate. “Let’s go!” She said. He was hidden behind a bus that had stopped to pick up passengers so I wasn’t entirely sure if he was still sitting there or not.
We rounded the back of the bus just in time to see this man get up and start walking away. Here was our chance!! We were on the chase. It was so exhilarating. I was in the middle of Malaysia, at a bus station, chasing after this man I believed God was asking me to bless. And I wasn’t even sure if he knew English!!
He appeared to be a homeless man. His hair was a little askew. As we were walking after him, I noticed he had a limp. I prayed that God would keep us safe in this situation and give us discernment.
We followed him to another bench about 100 yards from the first one. He sat down and we approached him and asked if we could sit down next to him. He looked surprised and gave a nod. We asked him what his name was. His spoke English, it was a little broken in places but we could understand him! I remember his named started with a D, but I don’t remember what it was.
I told him that I noticed a slight limp when he walked and asked him if his foot was in pain. He said yes and he explained that he was in a motorbike accident a while ago. He said that it still hurts when he walked so that is why he has to walk so slow. After that, he put his head back and closed his eyes. It looked like he was going to take a nap.
Jenny and I weren’t quite sure what he was doing. I talked with Jenny quietly and asked if she thought it would be ok to ask to pray for him. I trusted her judgement when she said that it might be best to give him the gift and pray for him back at the hostel.
I tapped his hand and he looked up, a little surprised. The expression on his face was, “Are you two still here?!” Then I told him that I wanted to bless him. I handed him the gift and I said that we hoped his foot would feel better. Jenny followed with, “We will be praying for you.” He was very thankful and had the biggest smile on his face. With that, we got up, said goodbye and started walking back.
As we walked away I just praised God. What a cool opportunity. I didn’t know this man or his story. All I knew is that we were able to love him. I was also grateful got to share this experience with Jenny. We got back to the hostel and we prayed for our new friend. We also prayed for Angel again. I thanked God for allowing me to love this man. I knew God loved him and I got to too.
