Well, I started running again. Despite the pain that still presides in my foot. The training must continue. It turns out that I have Plantar Fasciitis. WHAT?! Yep! Although I am no doctor, I do believe all the symptoms point to this particular ailment.
Plantar Fasciitis is the inflammation of the tendon that connects the heel of the foot to toes. It is a common injury in runners. It is caused by overuse of the foot, and wearing worn out or poorly supporting shoes. Since I am guilty of all three of these offenses, it leads me to believe this is the diagnoses. The good news, there will be no permanent damage, and it will heal completely. The bad news, it takes a long time for tendons to heal. I guess it can take up to 18 months. I am still able to run, which I will, but there may be some pain.
Running on this injured tendon will not harm the tendon, it will only increase the time of recovery. There are things I can do along with my running to help in the healing process. I got this neat athletic tape that I put on my foot. I gives my foot the extra support it needs. It is called KT Tape, and it is pretty neat. (And it is pink!!) It is also good to message the tendon to increase blood flow which helps in healing. (Plus it feels good too, especially when I get Ryan to do it.) Soaking it in warm water also brings relief.
Even though this may seem like a thorn in my side, I see it as a lesson learned. As a runner, my feet are my most important tool. I need them to run. I have learned the importance in taking care of them. I am glad I learned this lesson with something that wasn't so serious.
