We are in Cambodia this month and so far it is awesome! We are living and working at a Christin school. I have been put in charge of teaching first, second, fourth and fifth grade activities. I get 40 minutes with each group. (The first and second grade are combined.) While at this school we will focus on teaching English and Bible stories, but my class is the fun class. I basically get to play games and let kids be kids.
Today my first and second grade class wanted to play “football” which is actually soccer. So we grabbed the ball and headed out back to the field. After much confusing over who was going to be on who’s team, we were finally able to begin. (My kids speak little to no English so I had to have a translator with me.)
I could not have painted a better picture of pure joy than what I saw on that field. The ball hit the ground and they were off! One swift kick from a powerful leg and the ball shot clear across the field. Behind it stampeded 25 little children. You could hear shout of joy coming from there mouths. The little boys tearing down the field with the look of determination on there little faces. The little girls shrieking with delight as they were nearing the ball.
It was the most beautiful picture. It filled my heart to watch such joy. The children reminded my what pure joy looks like.
I could not stop smiling watching all this unfold. Then, by pure luck, one of the girls kicked the ball in the precise direction and with the precise speed to make the ball go between the two orange cones without being deflected my the little boy playing goalie.
Immediately there was a roar of cheering. They all ran towards me with there arms raised over there head screaming with delight at the goal that was just made. These kids really got it right. Truly the little things in life are worth celebrating.
